ASUU Declares Ngige Unfit Over Comments On Strike

ASUU declares Ngige unfit over comments on strike

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige was, on Thursday, berated by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) over his comment on the ongoing warning strike by the union, declaring him as unfit to be a minister.

Addressing newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Prof Olu-Olu Olufayo, the Coordinator of the Akure Zone of ASUU, stated that the zone has complied with the directive of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union held in Enugu that warning strike should commence.

Flanked by chairmen of branches in the zone, Prof. Olufayo explained that the ongoing strike was not only about non-payment of February salary of University workers over IPPIS issue but also because of the failure of the Federal Government to implement the January 9, 2020 agreement which covered six areas of universities’ needs.

Varsities under the Akure Zone are Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) and Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti branches of the union.
